Mural, Mural on the Wall

Richmond is an old place. Since the days of Pocahontas, things have been built and been left. Now, it seems this town is on a recycling kick - turning old spaces into new and adding to the RVA culture. There used to be a part of Cary Street, right past Carytown, that was a particular eyesore -- the old, decrepit Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) bus depot.

No one was sure what to do with this area until a light went off in an artist's head. Why not revitalize the more than 5 acres of walls, buildings, and trolley barns into art?

Eureka - the RVA Street Art Festival was born! Held in September (but with ongoing activities/events), it brought together dozens of national and local street artists who really did a number the site. The area is still open for folks who want to wander just a teensy bit past Carytown for some inspiration. I even saw one couple taking their engagement pictures there.

I won't spoil it for you by posting pictures of everything, but here's a few of some of Brian and I's favorites!
